John Abbott Benham Snyder and his wife Mabel Darlington Mitchell Snyder, natives of Ohio,  Indiana and New York, and Ira Perkins of Galena founded the  Galena Harrow Plow Factory at Galena, Kansas in 1909. The Snyders founded the
J.A. Snyder Bus Company at Joplin in 1914 , serving the Ozark communities
of Southwest Missouri, Northwest Arkansas and Southeast Kansas.

John and Mabel Snyder sired one daughter, Clara Olive, born February 16, 1906.
Helen Mitchell, younger sister of Mabel by 17 years, was  reared as their daughter from the age of 12 following the death of their parents, Clara Swift Mitchell and Thomas Darlington Mitchell of Wellsville, N .Y. Mabel and Helen had one brother,
Harry Darlington Mitchell

In 1934, John and Mabel's daughter, Clara Olive, married Dudley Eugene Blaise, a mining engineer connectd with the Admiralty Zinc Company of Picher, Okla., of which his own father E.F. "Gene" Blaise was president, and El Cedro Silver Company of Guanajuato, Mexico, of which Dudley was president. Bill Stewart, son-in-law of Joplin attorney Roy Coyne, also had a partnership interest in El Cedro. Clara Olive and Dudley sired two sons, John (Dudley Jr.) in 1937 and Tom in 1938.

Following a 1949 divorce from Dudley on grounds that he deserted her and their two infant sons in early 1939, Clara Olive married Charles M. Shepherd, a native of England, who was a resident of New York City for many years, where he was affiliated with Cities Service Oil Co., prior to being appointed director and treasurer of Empire District Electric Co., which was for many years a subsidiary of Cities Service. Mr. Shepherd died of a possible suicide in May 1955,
during a business  trip to New York City.
