Funeral services
for Grace Johnson Davis, widow of the late founding president of Borg-Warner Corporation,
Charles Strout Davis, will be held at 4 p.m. March 2 at the Royal Poinciana
Chapel with Rev. Samuel M. Lindsay officiating.
Mrs. Davis, a
member of the Garden Club of Palm Beach, and known for her interest in gardens
and floral arranging, died Feb. 23 at her home on South Lake Trail. She was 91.
The Davises first came to Palm Beach in 1936 and soon afterward built their winter Georgian home and gardens extending from the lake to Cocoanut Row. Designed by John Volk, the Davis home has been a favorite of the Garden Club tours. Mrs. Davis was also a member locally of the Society of Four Arts, Bath and Tennis and Everglades clubs. Her northern residences were in Chicago, Ill. and Northport Point, a Michigan resort community, where she held memberships in the Glenview Club, Casino Club, Women’s Athletic Club and Northport Point Country Club.
Mrs. Davis was a
daughter of Florence Grace Merriman and Abbott Livingstone Johnson, Muncie,
Indiana industrialist, who was president of Warner Gear Company, forerunner of
Borg-Warner Corporation. She was a sister of Ray Prescott Johnson Sr.,
Borg-Warner vice president and engineer.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. James
(Isabel) Wise of Kalamazoo; a son Charles S. Davis Jr. of Grosse Pointe Farms;
and four grandchildren.
Further services and entombment will
take place in Muncie, Ind. Quattlebaum-Holleman-Bruse is in charge of local
arrangements.
