The State of Israel, which defines itself as the national state of the Jewish people, was proclaimed on May 14, 1948, upon termination of the British mandate to govern Palestine. The establishment of Israel was preceeded by several months of violent conflict between Palestine's Arab majority and its Jewish minority and was followed by war between the new state and neighboring Arab states, ending in victory for Israel.
The United Nations resolution of November 29, 1947, which called for the partition of Palestine into two independent Jewish and Arab states, assigned the Jewish state some 56 percent of the territory of Palestine.
However, as a result of the fighting that followed this decision, Israel extended its control over territories that the UN had assigned to the future Arab states.
By 1949, Israel controlled nearly 77 percent of Palestine.
In June, 1967, during the Six Day War with Egypt, Syria and Jordan, Israeli forces occupied ALL of the remainder of Palestine -- the Jordanian ruled West Bank, including the eastern Arab sector of Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip -- plus the Sinai Peninsula and the Golan Heights, located in Southwestern Syria. In December 1981, Israel declared the Golan Heights, hitherto under military rule like the West Bank and Gaza, to be fully subject to normal Israeli law and administration.
In 1982, Israeli's defense minister Ariel Sharon directed Israeli's invasion of Lebanon and the carpet bombing and destruction of the city of Beirut. Five times as many men, women and children died than in the 9/11 attack. The bombing was carried out by Jews using fighter planes and bombs supplied by the United States.
The expressed reason that Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated, according to his assassin Sirhan-Sirhan, a dispossessed Palestinian, was because RFK allegedly had approved the sale of more fighter planes to Israel. The people of the United States, according to author and filmmaker Michael Moore (Bowling for Columbine, Stupid White Men), have been hoodwinked. Tricked, he says, by Republican lawmakers and their wealthy corporate pals who use a combination of concocted bogeymen and lies to stay rich and in control. ... book is intended to serve as a handbook for how people with liberal opinions (most of America) can take back their country from the conservative forces in power.
Commentary:
Moore's book claims to be a handbook for people with liberal opinons. Most of Americans have liberal opinons, according to Moore and Company. The fact is that intelligent people have independent opinions on virtually every issue. Most people are conservative on some issues, liberal on others. Also, some of the bogeymen are Democrats. A presidential candidate whose wife is a billionaire ain't no enemy of big corporations!
Assault on a Teenage Coastguardsman

It was 1958. I was a 19-year-old seaman apprentice, with little more than peach fuzz on my chin. I was thrown out of the hammock I was sleeping in and assaulted and battered by a much heavier and older drunken Black shipmate while serving my country in the United States Coast Guard. After he threw me out of the hammock I was sleeping in, knowing I also had previously injured my back while peforming my duties, he tried to strangle me after bashing my head against the deck.
Although there were witnesses to the fact that I was a victim of assault and battery, I was punished right along with my assailant, which was a mockery of justice. We were both restricted to the ship. Confined! It was after that incident that I began suffering from symptoms that are today recognized as post traumatic stress.
Why did it happen? My assailant was a Black racist and a coward (as are all bullies), who was drunk because he had participated in a beer bust that the captain had hosted while our cutter was anchored offshore in the South Pacific. He is part of the reason I was disabled while serving my country. Yet I was given NO purple heart for the pain and suffering I endured.
During Coast Guard boot training, we recruits, mostly 18 and 19-year-old boys, were lectured in the classroom on the merits of anal (rectal) sex. We were told that it was a preferred and safe way to enjoy sexual intercourse. We were told that the rectum is the "cleanest organ in the human body."
During my active duty with the Coast Guard, those of us who regularly attended Christian church services were mocked by our shipmates. A shipmate of mine was locked up in the Tripler Army Hospital psychiatric ward for reading his Bible in his spare time while we were out at sea in the South Pacific. Once as I was departing my ship to attend services at a local Episcopal Church, a shipmate remarked, "All Christians are queer." It was my opinion that the remark was made to me because I had previously resisted sexual advances made to me by my male supervisor and others and because I had been hospitalized for depression as a result of previous sexual harassment.
I did not realize until after I had voluntarily taken the oath of allegiance, first to the Marine Corps Reserve while I was a seventeen-year-old high school senior, then to the United States Coast Guard, after I had completed a year of college as an honor student, that I had forfeited my rights and my freedom as an American citizen.
Furthermore, I have since realized that the bureaucrats running the Veterans Administration are not interested in the welfare of veterans, especially those veterans who served in the ranks -- at the bottom of the dehumanizing military pecking order. What they are interested in is fattening their own wallets, the wallets of the CEOs running the non-Christian military-industrial complex and the wallets of the Congresspeople that enable the machinery to continue to run.

In 1968, while enrolled in a sociology class taught by Professor Fred Silberstein, I was informed by Silberstein that he was mandated by the O.U. Board of Regents to GIVE a foreign student a final grade higher than that he or she actually earned in the class. Thus if a foreign student earned a B, he received an A on his or her transcript. If an American student earned a B he received a B. As for myself, I believe I earned an A, but I received a B from Silberstein. In any event, I was cheated by the University of Oklahoma, by my government. The president of Univeristy of Oklahoma at the time was J. Herbert Holloman, a former undersecretary of commerce.
The vice president of O.U. was Verne Kennedy, a retired U.S. Army general, who bragged to me about having been issued a phony Joplin Globe press pass by an old Army buddy, H. Lang Rogers, owner and executive editor of the Joplin Globe, for whom I myself had once worked as a reporter in 1962, although I myself was never issued a press pass.
However, the press pass issued to Kennedy, a bachelor, was for the express purpose of enabling Kennedy, (who was receiving a fat Army pension and a fat salary from O.U.) to gain free admission to civic events for which he would have otherwise been charged an admission fee. I knew Kennedy professionally, as he asked me to tend bar for him at a private faculty party he held in his home. He also invited me to go water skiing with him and his companion, the nephew of an OU electrical contractor whom Kennedy awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars in contracts for the contruction of O.U. dorms and other buildings during the 1960s.
Kennedy's companion was charged with the attempted murder of three OU students, including two females, both graduate students, and myself, although the charges were dropped by the Norman Oklahoma city attorney with the understanding that Kennedy's companion, Mr. Cameron, undergo outpatient psychiatric treatment at the State Hospital in Norman. The last time I saw Vice President Kennedy, at a Norman restaurant, where I was dining with my wife, he was very evasive and rude.
During the O. U. Holloman-Kennedy Administration, tap beer was installed in the O.U. Student Union cafeteria. Political science professor John Paul Duncan seemingly developed a case of full-blown paranoia. So convinced was he that any male who sported a beard was an everpresent danger to democracy that he helped Senator Fred Harris' feminist daughter try to implement a fascist red-lining policy to secretly deny membership in the Young Democrats Club to any male sporting a beard. When I exposed him, he lowered my grade on a History of Political Theory class I was taking from him at the time. Duncan's wife was editor-in-chief of the University of Oklahoma Press.
